Christchurch was Marie’s home and birthplace. After sampling other parts of the world she settled for Auckland to work and raise a family. Marie is retired now and seeking new avenues of creative expression.
Twisted trunks, straining sinews, undulating hard and masculine.
There is no softness here, no reprieve.
I have always been drawn to these wonderful Gothic forms, Laocoon-like with his sons wrestling the python, the strength and power of horses, the fight for life itself but here it is measured, self-confident, determined as it should be but somehow effortless.
This tree, a testament to its right to a place, to a space to live and breathe and grow.
